Si chiama mweqinfauna, mwegendofauna o mwewendobenthos quella mwfacomunità di mwfqanimali mwfgbentonici che vive all'interno di un mwfwsubstrato.

È un termine che si usa soprattutto in mwgqecologia marina per parlare di quelle specie mwggbentoniche che vivono affondate in substrati molli come la sabbia o il fango (ad esempio la mwgwtellina) o anche in substrati duri come la roccia (ad esempio il mwhadattero di mare).

Infauna può essere considerata anche la fauna interstiziale o mwhgmeiofauna che vive tra i granelli di sabbia.

Il termine infauna si contrappone ad mwiaepifauna, che fa riferimento invece alla comunità di animali bentonici che vivono sopra il substrato.
